Safety First:
The following rules and guidelines are in place for the safety of both participants and staff members. We encourage you to read them, ask questions, and further your understanding of our policies to help you expand your knowledge as a paddler. We have found that by understanding and following these guidelines, everyone has a fun and safe experience on the water.

Rental Guidelines:
When renting our equipment you must adhere to our rules, guidelines, and restrictions. Failure to do so may result in the termination of your rental time, with no refund. Everyone using our rental equipment must sign waivers, and a parent or legal guardian must sign for minors. Equipment is to be used by one person at a time, with the exception of double kayaks and canoes. Based on the size and age of the paddlers, and the river conditions our staff may decide on limits on the number of people in a canoe.
The last rental will be put on the water no less than 30 minutes before the scheduled closing time. If you wish to go on the water for any part of that 30 minutes, you will be charged the full hourly rate and must return all equipment before close.
Rental fees are based on an hourly rate and must be paid in full prior to departure. Any part of an hour will be charged the full hourly rate and will be doubled for late equipment.

All staff reserve the right to refuse service based on paddling experience, weather, circumstance, and physical condition. If we feel your age, physical, health, or mental condition, or behaviour may cause harm to yourself or our staff, we will not rent to you.

Weather Restrictions:
Canoes, kayaks, and rowing shells should not be on the water with winds above 20km/hr or rough river conditions. Second Nature Outdoors Inc. reserves the right to cancel scheduled lessons or tours in the event of unsafe, poor weather conditions. Staff may delay launches, or call boats back off the water at their discretion using their best judgment and the weather information provided to them.

Weight Limits:
Weight limits on individual models of kayaks and stand-up paddleboards vary, but the following guidelines apply to the majority of our boats. For sit-in, classic sea kayak models, and stand up paddleboards the weight limit is approximately 275lbs. For dedicated sit on top kayaks, the weight limit is 350lbs. This is due to the product specifications of our boats. Manufacturers assign weight ratings for safety and performance. An overloaded kayak is an unsafe one, and will be more apt to have problems with wind-driven waves, boat wakes, and current. A heavy paddler in a kayak near or over its weight limit will be more likely to flip due to the shifting of their weight while paddling or at rest. It is very important, to be honest about your weight and not to exceed those limits. This is for your safety and the longevity and structural integrity of our equipment.

Age Limits:
All persons under the age of 19 must be accompanied by an adult who can assume liability for the underage person. Children under 16 may be restricted from paddling or using equipment at the discretion of staff members based on the paddling experience of the adults, and the conditions of the river.

Pets:
Second Nature Outdoors is a pet-friendly business. We encourage those who want to take their pets on the water with them to do so. The only watercraft that pets are permitted in is our canoes. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times while on land. Second Nature Outdoors does not provide pet PFD's taking your pet is at your own risk.

Transportation of Rental Equipment:
Canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddle may be rented and used off-site. These rentals are subject to the inspection of your vehicle and approval of a manager and must be arranged in advance. We rent soft racks for an additional cost, for those without proper rooftop carriers. Bow and stern ties must be used while transporting our equipment; at the time of pickup, we will instruct you how to properly tie down the boat. Damage to the boats while off-site, whether due to misuse or improper securing will be entirely at your expense. A credit card number must be kept on file while the boat is in your possession.

Alcohol & Cannabis:
Alcohol & Cannabis, and/or any illegal and/or illicit substances are prohibited in or around Second Nature Outdoors Inc. property. Failure to observe this policy will result in immediate termination of your rental agreement with no refund.

Swimming:
Please keep in mind that this is a water-sport, and experience does not make you immune to getting wet. There is always the potential of falling in the water, so you should have the ability to swim. PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) are provided as part of the rental package and MUST be worn and secured properly at all times. While we understand that at some point you may end up in the water, please be mindful that our boats are not diving or swimming platforms. Please be cautious and mindful of being in open water, the depth of the water, conditions, and motorized watercraft.

Please inform us if you do not plan to make your rental reservation. Reservations that are not prepaid are held up to a maximum of 15 minutes past the scheduled time. Please let us know if you will be late, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
