The Big Canoe Expedition, is a five day expedition designed to build leadership skills through adventure based experiences. During this program, participants will have fun and meet new people in an "unplugged environment. Participants will develop hard skills such as orienteering, how to light a fire, and other backcountry skills. Participants will also learn softer skills such as working with others, problem solving and goal setting and much more.
The group will depart the Small Craft Aquatic center in Fredericton and venture down the Saint John River over five days paddling in a big canoe. Participants will camp in tents, prepare their meals over a camp stove while as a team.

The trip leaders have extensive experience in wilderness safety, supporting participants through personal and social challenges in a wilderness setting. You can be rest assured that your child will come back from this trip more resilient, with a greater connection to nature in New Brunswick, and an improved sense of self.

Backpacking Expedition

The Second Nature Outdoors Backpacking Expedition will take youth on a five day wilderness backpacking expedition on the Nepisiquit Mi'Gmaq Trail designed to build leadership skills through adventure based experiences. During this program, participants will have fun and meet new people in an "unplugged environment. Participants will develop hard skills such as orienteering, how to light a fire, and other backcountry skills. Participants will also learn softer skills such as working with others, problem solving and goal setting and much more.

The group will depart the Small Craft Aquatic center in Fredericton by van and heading to the trailhead west of Bathurst. From here the group will hike toward Mt. Carleton Provincial Park. Along the way the group will camp in tents, prepare their meals over a camp stove while as a team.

Upon completion of this program participants will take away many skills and memories that will last a lifetime. In addition this program meets or exceeds the requirements set out by the Duke of Edinburgh award program Adventurous Journey component.
